I wasn't nearly as accurate with my Section II football semifinal picks as I was with my quarterfinal picks, but as you will see I did pretty good.
Prediction: Shenendehowa 49, LaSalle 28
Actual: Shen 45, LaSalle 20
I knew LaSalle would put up some points against Shen's defense, but I also knew that Shen would put up many more points against LaSalle's porous defense.
Prediction: CBA 28, Columbia 21
Actual: Columbia 25, CBA 14
I really should not have underestimated Columbia after what the Blue Devils did to Guilderland in the quarterfinal round (a 40-19 victory), but I did. And how about Columbia running back Christopher Smith? He gained more than 200 yards for the third consecutive game, despite CBA's best efforts to stop him. If Smith isn't the best running back in Section II, he's certainly one of the top two.
Prediction: Troy 28, Burnt Hills 14
Actual: Burnt Hills 38, Troy 7
The one thing I never considered was the possibility that Troy would fold like a house of cards if the Flying Horses had to play from behind. Credit BH-BL for turning in a strong performance, but this was a head scratcher for me.
Prediction: Amsterdam 42, Queensbury 14
Actual: Amsterdam 21, Queensbury 6
Queensbury put up a fight at the defensive end, but Amsterdam did what it needed to do in order to advance to the Class A final.
Prediction: Schalmont 21, Ravena 14
Actual: Schalmont 19, Ravena 14
Remember that darts analogy I used when reviewing my quarterfinal predictions? This one would rate a bull's eye for sure. I knew Ravena would make it difficult for Schalmont to run up the score, but the Sabres still had enough to pull out the win.
Prediction: Albany Academy 35, Cobleskill 13
Actual: Academy 14, Cobleskill 6
Nice job by Cobleskill's defense to make this a game, but you can't keep Conner Hartigan out of the end zone. It is simply impossible. He is a force of nature.
Semifinal record: 4-2
Overall record: 15-3
Stay tuned because I will be predicting all five Section II football championship games.
