Youth hockey: Bethlehem wins Rink Rat Tournament

The Bethlehem Youth Hockey Bantam A team took first place at the Rink Rat Tournament with Monday's 3-2 overtime win against Mohawk Valley (Utica).

The Eagles split their first two games of the tournament, which was sponsored by the Troy Albany Hockey Association. They defeated Mohawk Valley 6-2 before losing to Voisins ru Richelieu from Quebec 3-2. Bethlehem then edged Troy Albany 4-3 and Richfield, Conn., 8-2 to advance to the finals.

"Our team was gritty and tough, and (we) played hard to secure the win," said Bethlehem coach Marty Hull. "These kids are tough competitors who kept their focus throughout the tournament to overcome small setbacks for the big win. I am proud of our team."

The Rink Rat Tournament featured 58 teams from different youth divisions playing a total of 131 games. The event brought in an estimated $1 million to the local economy.
