Bob and Greg Rentz (left and right, respectively) opened the Purple Pub in 1972 with the help of their parents. The restaurant celebrates 40 years of business on Sunday, April 15.
continued “My mother helped with recipes and doing the cooking,” said Rentz.
His mother used her own sauce recipe to add pasta and pizza to the menu. Eventually, wings, salads and more sandwiches found their way on to the menu.
“I think it’s good food at a fair price,” said Rentz. “… Most of the food has remained the same. We do specials on a daily basis.”
The restaurant’s weeklong celebration kicks off on April 10 and 11 with customer appreciation days. Special offers will be available at the restaurant and on the Purple Pub Facebook page. For a full list of events check the Facebook page or www.purple-pub.com. The Purple Pub is located at 2 Cohoes Road in Watervliet.
