Wednesday roundup: Girls soccer teams post wins

Bethlehem keeps pace with Guilderland

— The Bethlehem girls soccer team defeated Columbia 3-1 Wednesday in East Greenbush to keep pace with Suburban Council South Division leader Guilderland, which defeated Colonie 3-1.

Tara Teal, Stephanie Dootz and Dana Donnelly tallied for Bethlehem (6-2-1), which sits one game behind Guilderland in the South Division standings. Lindsay Mulligan scored for Columbia.

Bethlehem goaltender Emily Venezia made six saves to pick up the victory.

In Guilderland, Jess Capone scored twice in the first half to lift the Lady Dutch (7-1-1) to victory. Michaela Maybee tallied in the second half off a Lauren Kogelmann pass.

Andrea Guidarelli scored a first half goal for Colonie (1-7-0).

Girls swimming

The Guilderville girls swim team rallied to edge Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake 94-91 in Wednesday's duel meet in Burnt Hills.

BH-BL had an 87-84 lead going into the final event, the 400-yard freestyle relay. But the Guilderville team of jackie Cunningham, Hannah Liu, Nicole Das and Mackenzie Cietek finished first with a time of 3:56.79 to give the visitors the points necessary for pulling out the victory.

Jenna Bickel led Guilderville with victories in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard freestyle. Cietek contributed a win in the 50-yard freestyle, and Helen Merkley added a victory in the 100-yard backstroke.

Sara Swett had wins in the 200- and 500-yard freestyles for BH-BL. Lauren Rabideau won the 100-yard butterfly and the 100-yard breaststroke, and Lauren Katz finished first in the 1-meter diving competition.
